Up for sale is a new print of an absolutely charming 1890?s poster for a musical comedy revue that performed by Harry Montague's Comedy Company. The poster copy is very simple. In addition to the title of the company and the name of the show it ads: Sweet Music, Superb Costumes. What is stunning is the illustration of the actress, a beautiful young woman. In the background a gentleman, complete with monocle, is shown tipping his hat. The term musical comedy slowly began to suggest a slightly more upscale than the other big medium of the era, the burlesque show. In the 1890?s musical comedies were usually farcical. They were usually little skits that served to move from one musical number. During this period the costuming became increasingly important. Slowly, but surely, the plots became a little more complex. This poster will make an absolutely wonderful addition to a collection of theater memorabilia. This print is on a quality 100# high glossy text paper. The poster measures 10.5? (w) X 16.5 (h).
