A Night With Dolly?
I spent some time with Dolly yesterday,
As arm in arm we strolled through Dollywood.
With pride I sauntered out the paved midway,
For Dolly was “glammed up” and looking good.
As we were passing Spotlight Bakery,
That’s when I noticed things were really odd:
For many folks were coming up to me
And staring at me like I was a god:
“We love your show!” (They told me—everyone.)
“And we can’t wait to hear you sing again.
We love your theme park, too; it’s lots of fun!”
I looked at Dolly and she had a grin:
“I love your show, too!” she said, goo-goo eyed
And gawking at me like a lovesick fan:
“I’d be a lucky gal,” she said with pride,
“If you would marry me and be my man?”
“Are you proposing to me—in this park?”
I asked, astonished, holding to her arm.
She answered, “Hitched we could be ’fore it’s dark!” —
That’s when I heard the morning clock alarm. . . .
