The people come from far and near And, for a while, we lend an ear. we take a seat and wait to hear. . . . The first one up to spin a yarn Begins behind his uncle’s barn: Tom's uncle didn’t give a darn If he and little sally mae Went back there for a while to stay And spent the better part of day. . . . And then another starts to tell About the day his granny fell Down sixty feet inside a well. . . . Each spinner shares a unique style Some guys . . . Some gals . . . And for a while, They make us cry and make us smile. One plays a different instrument For each tale underneath the tent. . . . And then another southern gent Can pitch his voice and make it sound Just like a horse, a cat, a hound. . . . A lady, middle-aged and round, She makes the tent with laughter roar. We calm down. It’s not long before Her stories make us laugh some more. . . . The show began two hours ’til noon, And now, I’m seeing a full moon. This day has ended way too soon. But, just as sure as they must go, When they come back again I know That I’ll be here on the front row!
